Bank payments and local payment methods for online stores

Checked

Outside the card networks, shoppers in many countries pay straight from their bank: by redirect (iDEAL, Bancontact, EPS), real-time transfer (Pix, UPI, PayNow), direct debit (SEPA, ACH, Bacs) or a cash voucher (OXXO, Konbini, Boleto). Most confirm instantly and cannot be charged back; debits and vouchers take days. PlatformDTC checkout offers none of these today. It takes cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal in 22 currencies, and Klarna and Afterpay on one-time orders.

Bank and local payment methods compared (PlatformDTC checkout offers none of them today)

What bank payments mean for a store owner

Shopper-approved bank payments (redirects, real-time transfers, QR codes) usually confirm in seconds and have no chargebacks, because the shopper signs in to their own bank. The trade-off is that refunds go out as a new bank credit, often with a deadline of 90 to 730 days, and most of these methods cannot charge a subscription renewal.

Direct debits are the opposite: built for renewals, but slow to confirm and easy for the customer to reverse. Cash vouchers reach shoppers without cards, but orders wait until the shopper pays, and OXXO and Boleto cannot be refunded through Stripe.

What PlatformDTC checkout offers instead

PlatformDTC checkout takes cards on every store, with Apple Pay and Google Pay at the top of checkout. PayPal shows when the order is in one of the 22 currencies PlatformDTC's PayPal button charges in. Cards, wallets and PayPal can all pay subscription renewals.

Klarna is on by default for one-time orders from shoppers in 23 countries across Europe, North America and Oceania, and Afterpay (Clearpay in the UK) covers domestic one-time orders in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK and the US. Neither appears on subscription carts. Bank redirects, direct debits and cash vouchers are not offered today.

Frequently asked questions

Which local payment methods does PlatformDTC checkout support?
None of the bank redirects, direct debits or cash vouchers on this page today. PlatformDTC checkout takes cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal in 22 currencies, and Klarna and Afterpay on eligible one-time orders.
Why do most bank payments have no chargebacks?
The shopper signs in to their own bank to approve the payment, so fraud risk is low and the methods have no dispute process. Exceptions include BLIK, MB WAY, TWINT, PayTo, UPI, limited Pix cases, the direct debits, and the card wallets MobilePay and Vipps.
Which of these methods can pay for a subscription?
On Stripe: SEPA, ACH and Bacs Direct Debit, PayTo, BLIK (up to 2,000 PLN per charge), TWINT, UPI AutoPay, Pix Automático for sellers outside Brazil, and Boleto. iDEAL renewals run through SEPA Direct Debit.
Is Sofort still available?
No. Stripe discontinued Sofort on 31 March 2025 and recommends Klarna's pay in full option as the closest replacement.
