Online payment methods: what shoppers use in every country
Shoppers pay the way their country taught them: cards and wallets in the US, iDEAL in the Netherlands, Pix in Brazil, BLIK in Poland. This library explains each method in plain words for store owners: where it works, how a shopper pays, refunds, disputes and subscriptions. Every page is checked against the method's own documentation, dated, and says honestly whether PlatformDTC checkout offers it today and what shoppers can use instead.

What PlatformDTC checkout offers today
PlatformDTC checkout runs on the store's own Stripe account and its own PayPal account. Today it offers card payments, Apple Pay and Google Pay, PayPal, and two buy now, pay later options, Klarna and Afterpay (Clearpay in the UK), on one-time orders. Bank redirects, direct debits and cash vouchers are not offered yet; each method page says what shoppers in that market can use instead.

How to choose methods for a new market
Start with the country page: it lists what shoppers there actually use, from official sources, and which of those PlatformDTC checkout takes. Then check the method page for limits that change the decision, such as order size caps for buy now, pay later, or methods that cannot fund a subscription renewal.
- Cards and wallets work almost everywhere and fund subscriptions.
- Buy now, pay later lifts larger one-time orders but never pays renewals.
- Bank payments are often the local favourite in Europe, Latin America and Asia, but usually cannot be charged again automatically.
Frequently asked questions
- Which payment methods does PlatformDTC checkout support?
- Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna and Afterpay (Clearpay in the UK). Klarna and Afterpay work on one-time orders only. Amazon Pay is not offered today.
- Can shoppers use Klarna or Afterpay for a subscription?
- No. Neither leaves a payment method that can be charged again for the next renewal, so PlatformDTC checkout hides both on subscription carts. Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and PayPal can pay subscriptions.
- Does PlatformDTC offer iDEAL, Pix or other bank payments?
- Not today. Each bank payment page says so and lists what shoppers in that country can use on PlatformDTC checkout instead, such as cards, wallets, PayPal or Klarna.
- Why does Apple Pay sometimes not appear?
- Apple Pay only shows on a device and browser that support it, and only on a checkout domain registered with Stripe. PlatformDTC registers a checkout domain with Stripe and only moves a store's checkout onto it once Stripe reports the wallets active.
- How current is this information?
- Every page shows the date its sources were read and links to the official documents, so you can check them yourself. Payment providers change their country lists and limits, and pages are re-checked when they do.
