Konbini payments for online stores: how cash checkout works in Japan
Checked
Konbini lets shoppers in Japan pay for online orders in cash at a convenience store. At checkout they get a payment code and confirmation number for each supported chain, then pay at FamilyMart, Lawson, Ministop or Seicomart before the code expires. The store is notified right after the cash payment. Payments run from ¥120 to ¥300,000. There are no chargebacks, refunds go out by bank transfer once the shopper sends their bank details, and only Japanese businesses can accept Konbini.

How a shopper pays at a konbini
The shopper chooses Konbini and enters their name and email (a phone number can be used as the confirmation number). Stripe shows payment codes, a confirmation number and an expiry time for each chain; the shopper can print them or keep them on their phone, then pay in cash at the store and keep the receipt.
Requirements for your store
Konbini is only for Japanese Stripe accounts, and the convenience-store chains can reject a business at their discretion. Your website must show your address, contact email and phone, support hours, shipping fees, return and refund policy, and a complete Specified Commercial Transactions Act disclosure. Stripe also lists banned categories such as e-cigarettes, fortune-telling and personal import forwarding.
