How a shopper pays with PayNow
Stripe shows a PayNow QR code. On a computer the shopper scans it with a participating app on their phone; on a phone they save the QR image and upload it in their app. They approve within an hour, after which the code expires. A paid QR code cannot be used again.
The Association of Banks in Singapore describes PayNow as free for retail customers and available 24/7, with participants including banks and major payment institutions such as e-wallets.
What it means for your store
PayNow has no chargebacks, because each payment is approved in a separate app. The shopper's statement shows STRIPE PAYMENTS SINGAPORE PTE. LTD. and a reference, not your shop name, so include clear order details in your confirmation email. PayNow is available only to Singapore Stripe accounts and does not work in Stripe Checkout's subscription mode.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does the shopper's statement not show my store name?
- PayNow does not support custom statement descriptors; shoppers see Stripe Payments Singapore and a reference.
- How long is a PayNow QR code valid?
- One hour. After that the shopper starts a new payment, which creates a new QR code.
- Can I refund a PayNow payment?
- Yes, fully or partly within 90 days; Stripe says refunds take up to about five minutes.
