Vipps for online stores: how Norwegian shoppers pay with Vipps
Checked
Vipps is Norway's mobile wallet, now part of Vipps MobilePay. The shopper enters the phone number linked to Vipps and approves a push notification in the app. Like MobilePay, it runs as a card payment: Stripe charges the card held in Vipps, so card-style disputes apply. On Stripe, Vipps is in private preview, with Norwegian krone as the standard currency and other currencies on request. It does not support recurring payments.

PlatformDTC checkout does not offer Vipps today; Norwegian shoppers can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal in kroner, or Klarna for one-time orders up to 100,000 NOK.
How a shopper pays with Vipps
The shopper types the phone number tied to their Vipps account, gets a push notification, and approves in the Vipps app. Vipps MobilePay says Vipps passed one million users within six months of its 2015 launch, and that its brands have since come together as one Nordic wallet.
What it means for your store
Because Vipps payments are card transactions, you pay Stripe's card fees plus a Vipps fee billed daily, and shoppers can dispute through their card issuer as with any card payment. Stripe does not support the BankAxept network; BankAxept-branded cards run on Visa or Mastercard. Stripe accounts in EU/EEA countries can accept Vipps; the UK and US are not listed.
