EPS for online stores: how Austrian bank payments work
Checked
EPS is Austria's online bank transfer. The shopper picks their bank at checkout, signs in with their usual banking login, and approves the payment, for example by SMS or a bank scanner. Stripe says all Austrian banks support EPS and most Austrian online retailers accept it. Payments are in euros from €1, confirm instantly, cannot be charged back, and can be refunded within 180 days. EPS cannot be used for recurring charges.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout does not offer EPS today; Austrian shoppers can check out with a card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal in euros, or Klarna on one-time orders up to €10,000.
How a shopper pays with EPS
The shopper chooses EPS, selects their bank and lands on the bank's login page. After signing in they have up to an hour to approve the payment with the bank's own method. They see straight away whether it worked and can return to your shop for the confirmation.
What it means for your store
Because the shopper authenticates with their bank, EPS has no chargeback process and Stripe never takes money back from your balance for a dispute. Refunds are sent as a new credit to the shopper's account, are not labelled as refunds on the statement, and cannot be cancelled once sent. Stripe gives no guaranteed maximum time for a refund to land.
