How Stripe prices differ by region

In the European Economic Area, the UK and Gibraltar, Stripe splits domestic cards into standard (1.5%) and premium (2.8%, 1.9% in Poland) and prices cards from outside the region as a separate, higher rate rather than an add-on.

In the United States, Canada, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico, Malaysia and the UAE, Stripe quotes one domestic rate and adds a percentage on top for international cards and for currency conversion.

Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Switzerland and Norway quote a separate, full rate for international cards. Japan quotes one card rate with no fixed fee, and India charges a percentage only.

Read the effective rate, not the headline

Your real cost is total fees divided by total sales. The fixed fee per payment matters more on small orders, and every international or premium card moves you above the headline. Each country page works one month through to the cent so you can compare like for like.

Frequently asked questions

Is Stripe cheaper in Europe than in the United States?
For standard domestic cards, yes: 1.5% plus a fixed fee such as €0.25 in the euro area against 2.9% + $0.30 in the United States. Premium and international cards narrow the gap.
Does Stripe charge monthly fees anywhere?
Not on standard pricing. Every Stripe pricing page we read on 31 October 2026 states there are no setup or monthly fees; you pay per successful payment, plus add-ons for international cards, conversion and disputes.
Can I use my own Stripe account on PlatformDTC?
Yes. PlatformDTC can take card payments through your own Stripe account, and those sales carry no PlatformDTC fee and no plan fee, so you pay only Stripe's rate for your country.
