What PlatformDTC does

PlatformDTC Payments charges 2.9% + $0.30 per card sale with no plan fee, the same as Stripe's standard US rate, so the $10,000 month above is $350.00 in card fees on either. Its international (+1.5%) and conversion (+1%) add-ons and $15 dispute fee also match. PlatformDTC Payments passes payouts on at cost (0.25% + $0.25 each, and $2 in a month with a payout). Connect your own Stripe account instead and PlatformDTC adds no fee at all.

A worked month

Assumptions: Stripe's standard pricing, an average order of $50, every payment successful, no refunds or disputes. Each line is rounded to the cent.

$10,000.00 in 200 orders, all domestic cards: 2.9% of $10,000.00 = $290.00, plus 200 × $0.30 = $60.00. Total $350.00, or 3.50% of sales.

$50,000.00 in 1,000 orders, all domestic cards: 2.9% of $50,000.00 = $1,450.00, plus 1,000 × $0.30 = $300.00. Total $1,750.00, or 3.50% of sales.

If a fifth of that $50,000 month came from international cards at 4.4% + $0.30, with no currency conversion, the bill would be $1,400.00 on the domestic $40,000 plus $500.00 on the international $10,000: $1,900.00 in total.

What raises your fees

The headline rate covers the cheapest case. These push the real cost up:

  • Cards from abroad — international cards: 1.5% on top of the domestic rate (4.4% + $0.30 in total).
  • Currency conversion: +1% when the payment is in a currency other than the one you are paid out in.
  • Manually entered cards: +0.5% when card details are typed in for the customer.
  • Disputes: $15.00 for each dispute received, plus $15.00 if you counter it by hand (given back if you win).
  • Small orders: the fixed $0.30 weighs more on a small basket. On a $10 order, 2.9% + $0.30 is 5.90% of the sale.

For developers

The fee Stripe actually took on a payment is on that charge's balance transaction (fee and fee_details), in your settlement currency. Read it from there rather than recomputing it from this page, because card type and conversion change it per payment.
