What does Braintree 2060 “Address Verification and Card Security Code Failed” mean?

Checked

Braintree 2060 “Address Verification and Card Security Code Failed” means both the address (AVS) and security code (CVV) checks failed. It is a hard decline. Braintree says the customer should contact PayPal or use a different payment method. Two failed checks at once is also a common sign that the buyer is not the cardholder.

What PlatformDTC does

PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree. A wrong security code on its Stripe checkout is incorrect_cvc and a wrong postcode incorrect_zip; PlatformDTC never retries the first, never moves either to a backup processor, and shows a hint for the code.

Why it happens

The billing address and the security code both failed to match what the issuer has on file.

What the store can do

Ask the shopper to recheck both, or pay another way. Treat repeated attempts with care.

For developers

Braintree returns processor_response_code 2060 with processor_response_text “Address Verification and Card Security Code Failed” and processor_response_type “hard_declined” on the Transaction object.
