What does Braintree 2030 “Set Up Error – Terminal” mean?

Checked

Braintree 2030 “Set Up Error – Terminal” means there is a setup issue with your account at the processor terminal level. It is a hard decline caused by configuration, not the shopper's card. Contact Braintree to fix it; every payment routed the same way will keep failing.

What PlatformDTC does

PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree, and processor terminal settings like this are handled by the processor, not the store. On PlatformDTC's Stripe rail, a fault on the account side rather than the card (a revoked key, lost access to the store's account, an outage) is not booked as the customer's decline: the renewal stays due, is re-charged by a 15-minute sweep once fixed, and the subscriber gets no “payment failed” email.

Why it happens

The terminal configuration behind your merchant account is wrong or incomplete.

What the store can do

Contact Braintree support and hold off on retries until it confirms the fix.

For developers

Braintree returns processor_response_code 2030 with processor_response_text “Set Up Error – Terminal” and processor_response_type “hard_declined” on the Transaction object.
