What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree, so this account-hierarchy setting has no equivalent. Its Stripe rail keeps the subscriber out of setup faults: the renewal stays due with no retry used and no “payment failed” email, and a sweep re-charges it every 15 minutes once the account works.
Why it happens
Braintree only says it is a setup issue with your account.
What the store can do
Contact Braintree support. Pause automatic retries on affected subscriptions so customers are not emailed about a fault that is yours.
For developers
Braintree returns processor_response_code 2028 with processor_response_text “Set Up Error – Hierarchy” and processor_response_type “hard_declined” on the Transaction object.
