What does Braintree 2032 “Surcharge Not Permitted” mean?
Checked
Braintree 2032 “Surcharge Not Permitted” means the bank does not allow a surcharge on this card. It is a hard decline. Braintree's guidance is that the customer uses a different payment method. If you add card surcharges, check the rules for that card type and region before charging them.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree. On its Stripe checkout the stricter of Stripe's label and the raw network code decides whether a renewal is tried again, so a card refusal the shopper must solve with another method is not charged blindly.
Why it happens
The transaction carried a surcharge amount the card or region does not permit.
What the store can do
Offer another payment method, or charge without the surcharge where rules forbid it.
For developers
Braintree returns processor_response_code 2032 with processor_response_text “Surcharge Not Permitted” and processor_response_type “hard_declined” on the Transaction object.
