What does Braintree 2022 “Declined – Updated Cardholder Available” mean?
Checked
Braintree 2022 “Declined – Updated Cardholder Available” means the card expired or was reported lost and the bank has issued a new one. It is a hard decline. The old details will not work again. Reach out to the customer to get the new card number, or use an account updater if your processor offers one.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree. On Stripe the same answer is new_account_information_available, which PlatformDTC classes as never-retry at checkout and never moves to a backup processor, because only the new card can pay.
Why it happens
Banks send this when a card has been reissued, for example after expiry or a lost-card report. Saved cards in subscriptions hit it often.
What the store can do
Ask the customer to update their card. Account updater services can refresh saved cards automatically where available.
For developers
Braintree returns processor_response_code 2022 with processor_response_text “Declined – Updated Cardholder Available” and processor_response_type “hard_declined” on the Transaction object.
