What does Braintree 2024 “Card Type Not Enabled” mean?
Checked
Braintree 2024 “Card Type Not Enabled” means your merchant account cannot process the card brand the shopper used, for example American Express or Discover. It is a hard decline caused by your account, not the shopper. Ask Braintree to enable the brand; until then the shopper needs another card.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree, so which brands your Braintree account takes does not carry over. On PlatformDTC's Stripe rail, a fault on the account side rather than the card (a revoked key, lost access to the store's account, an outage) is not booked as the customer's decline: the renewal stays due, is re-charged by a 15-minute sweep once fixed, and the subscriber gets no “payment failed” email.
Why it happens
Each card brand has to be enabled on the merchant account. A brand that was never turned on is refused at the processor.
What the store can do
Contact Braintree to add the card type, and hide that brand's logo at checkout until it works.
For developers
Braintree returns processor_response_code 2024 with processor_response_text “Card Type Not Enabled” and processor_response_type “hard_declined” on the Transaction object.
