What does PayPal processor response code 1330 mean?
Checked
PayPal processor response code 1330 (INVALID_ACCOUNT) means the account behind the card was refused as invalid. The card number may be wrong, the card replaced, or the account closed. A retry with the same details won't work. The shopper should re-check the number or use another card; on saved cards, the merchant should ask for new details.

What PlatformDTC does
A PayPal card payment declined 1330 is stored by PlatformDTC as invalid_account and counted as permanent. On either retry schedule (the default Fixed schedule or Smart retry), automatic renewal attempts stop at once, the subscription is held past due rather than cancelled, and the customer is emailed a one-click way to add a new card.
Why it happens
The bank doesn't recognise the account as one it can charge. PayPal's label doesn't say whether the number is wrong or the account is gone.
What the shopper can do
Re-enter the card number carefully once.
If it fails again, use a different card; your bank can confirm whether the old one still works.
What the store can do
Ask the customer for an updated card instead of retrying.
Several unrelated shoppers with 1330 at once can point to a problem in how card data reaches PayPal.
For developers
PayPal returns 1330 in processor_response.response_code on the capture (purchase_units[].payments.captures[]) or authorization of a card payment. PayPal's own name for it is INVALID_ACCOUNT.
Keep the raw code with the order. PayPal's label is the only official meaning, and the exact code tells support which branch of PayPal's table fired.
Frequently asked questions
- Will 1330 succeed if I wait?
- No. It describes the account, not a passing condition, so new details are needed.
- What's the difference between 1330 and 0390?
- PayPal labels 0390 ACCOUNT_NOT_FOUND and 1330 INVALID_ACCOUNT. Both mean the card details can't be charged as they are.
