What does Adyen refusal reason 8 “Invalid Card Number” mean?

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC does not connect to Adyen; its checkout runs on Stripe and PayPal. The same answer reaches it as Stripe's incorrect_number; PlatformDTC shows a plain hint to check the number, never retries the card and never reroutes it to a backup processor.
Why it happens
Typos and swapped digits are the usual cause. A number that is right but not recognised by the issuer, or not in any issuer's range, fails the same way.
What the shopper can do
Type the long card number again carefully, or pay with another card.
What the store can do
Watch for many code 8 refusals from one source in a short time: guessed numbers are a sign of card testing.
For developers
refusalReasonCode "8". Visa raw 14 sits in category 1 (do not retry) and category 3; 15 No such issuer is category 1. Retrying the same PAN can attract Visa excessive retry fees.
