What does Adyen refusal reason 14 “Acquirer Fraud” mean?

Checked

Adyen refusal reason 14, "Acquirer Fraud", means the acquirer flagged the transaction as possible fraud. Adyen's description is just "Possible fraud." It is a risk decision on the processing side, not the shopper's bank declining for funds. Do not keep retrying the same card; review the order, and if the shopper is genuine, offer another payment method.

What PlatformDTC does

PlatformDTC does not connect to Adyen; its checkout runs on Stripe and PayPal. On its Stripe rail, a processor-side fraud refusal (Stripe's fraudulent) is never retried and never sent to a backup processor, so a suspect payment cannot slip through another route.

Why it happens

The acquirer's own fraud checks judged the transaction too risky to pass on.

What the shopper can do

Use a different payment method or contact the store.

What the store can do

Look at the order details (email, address, IP, velocity). Adyen asks merchants not to expose refusal details to shoppers, so use a neutral message.

For developers

refusalReasonCode "14". Distinct from 20/22 (Adyen's own risk scoring) and 31 (the issuer suspects fraud).
