What does Adyen refusal reason 15 “Cancelled” mean?
Checked
Adyen refusal reason 15, "Cancelled", means the transaction was cancelled. It is not a decision by the shopper's bank about funds or fraud. Adyen's raw responses mention, for example, partially approved transactions that were cancelled, and approved transactions cancelled afterwards. If the purchase should still happen, the shopper needs to start a new payment.
- Type
- Cancelled (not a bank decline)
- Who declined
- The merchant, system or flow that cancelled it

- Start a new payment if the purchase should go ahead.
- Shopper action
- Pay again if you still want the order.
- Merchant action
- Check why it was cancelled in the Customer Area.
What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC does not connect to Adyen; its checkout runs on Stripe and PayPal. Its card network retry ceilings count only attempts the bank declined, so a cancellation never uses up a card's retry budget there.
Why it happens
Cancellations can come from the merchant's side or from the payment flow, for example a partial approval that was cancelled rather than completed with another tender.
What the shopper can do
If you still want the order, start the payment again.
What the store can do
Open the payment in the Customer Area to see what cancelled it before contacting the shopper.
For developers
resultCode "Cancelled" with refusalReasonCode "15". Raw 10 Partial approval maps to a cancelled journal type on Adyen's raw responses page.
