What does PayPal processor response code 1310 mean?
Checked
PayPal processor response code 1310 (INVALID_AMOUNT) means the amount in the payment request was refused as invalid. PayPal's label doesn't say why. The store should check the amount it sent, because retrying the identical request won't help. On a PayPal card subscription, PlatformDTC records it under the Orders issue PayPal returned, or as INSTRUMENT_DECLINED when there is none.

What PlatformDTC does
PayPal 1310 is not one of the processor codes PlatformDTC maps, so the decline is recorded under the Orders API issue PayPal returned, or as INSTRUMENT_DECLINED, a generic PayPal refusal, when there is none; the raw 1310 stays in the failure message. With Smart retry on, a PayPal subscription renewal then follows the PayPal ladder: up to 7 attempts at least 3 days apart, moved to the next payday within a week, inside a window of at least 24 days.
Why it happens
The amount field didn't pass validation. PayPal names only INVALID_AMOUNT; a zero total, wrong decimal places for the currency, or an amount outside an allowed range are the usual suspects.
What the shopper can do
This one is rarely your fault. Let the store know, or try a different payment method.
What the store can do
Look at the exact amount and currency your checkout sent for the failed order.
Fix the cause before retrying; resending the same amount gives the same answer.
For developers
PayPal returns 1310 in processor_response.response_code on the capture (purchase_units[].payments.captures[]) or authorization of a card payment. PayPal's own name for it is INVALID_AMOUNT.
Keep the raw code with the order. PayPal's label is the only official meaning, and the exact code tells support which branch of PayPal's table fired.
Frequently asked questions
- Can a shopper fix 1310?
- Rarely. The amount comes from the store's checkout, so the store has to correct it.
- Is 1310 a card problem?
- PayPal's label points at the amount, not the card. The same card should work once the amount is valid.
