What does Checkout.com 20062 “Restricted card” mean?

Checked

Checkout.com 20062 "Restricted card" means the bank has placed a restriction on the card that blocks this payment. Checkout.com tells the shopper to try a different card or contact the bank. Visa lists it in category 2, so it may clear later, but only after the restriction is lifted by the bank.

What PlatformDTC does

PlatformDTC classifies Checkout.com 20062 as never retry. Checkout does not offer a backup processor for it, because the same card or the same details fail the same way everywhere. A subscription renewal declined with 20062 is never retried: the subscription is held past due and the customer is emailed a link to add a new card.

Why it happens

Restrictions include cards limited to one country, cards frozen by the cardholder, or a bank block after suspicious activity.

What the shopper can do

Check the banking app for a freeze or travel setting, call the bank, or use another card.

What the store can do

Offer alternatives and avoid repeated attempts on the same card.

For developers

The payment comes back with status Declined, response_code 20062 and a response_summary such as "Restricted card" (Checkout.com notes the text can vary by endpoint). Checkout.com's Visa table puts this code in category 2, which it pairs with recommendation code 02 (try again later); read processing.recommendation_code on the response.
