What PlatformDTC does

On PlatformDTC, a Checkout.com decline with 20068 is on the reroute list. When the store has PayPal card payments switched on as its backup, checkout immediately offers the shopper that second route instead of a dead end, and PayPal card orders still pass the store's fraud rules. With Smart retry on, a subscription renewal declined with 20068 is retried 2, 5 and 8 days after the first decline.

Why it happens

The bank's systems were slow or a connection dropped between the network and the bank, so the authorization timed out.

What the shopper can do

Wait a moment and pay again. Another card is fine too.

What the store can do

A new attempt is reasonable. Make sure the shopper was not charged twice before asking them to retry.

For developers

The payment comes back with status Declined, response_code 20068 and a response_summary such as "Response received too late / Timeout" (Checkout.com notes the text can vary by endpoint). Checkout.com's Visa table puts this code in category 4, which it pairs with recommendation code 02 (try again later); read processing.recommendation_code on the response.
