What does Braintree 2080 “Invalid user credentials” mean?
Checked
Braintree 2080 “Invalid user credentials” means the credentials used for the request were not accepted. It is a hard decline caused by your setup. Check and update the API credentials or account link, then try again. The shopper's card or PayPal account is not the cause.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree. On its Stripe rail a revoked or wrong key is an infrastructure fault, not a decline: the renewal stays due, no retry is used and the subscriber is not emailed, and it is charged as soon as the key works.
Why it happens
Wrong, expired or revoked credentials between your integration and the processor.
What the store can do
Update your credentials, then retry.
For developers
Braintree returns processor_response_code 2080 with processor_response_text “Invalid user credentials” and processor_response_type “hard_declined” on the Transaction object.
