Checked

Braintree 2041 “Declined – Call For Approval” means the card requires the cardholder's approval for this payment, and the shopper needs to contact their bank. It is a hard decline. After the shopper speaks to the bank, a new attempt may pass; until then, retries will keep failing.

What PlatformDTC does

PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree. On its Stripe checkout a bank asking to be called answers call_issuer; PlatformDTC retries that renewal once after 48–72 hours, then asks for a new payment method, unless the raw network code says never approve.

Why it happens

The bank wants to hear from the cardholder before approving, often for a large or unusual purchase.

What the shopper can do

Call the bank on the number on the card, approve the purchase, then try again.

What the store can do

Ask the shopper to call the bank and then try again, or to use another method.

For developers

Braintree returns processor_response_code 2041 with processor_response_text “Declined – Call For Approval” and processor_response_type “hard_declined” on the Transaction object.
