Checked
Checkout.com 20059 "Suspected fraud" means the shopper's bank refused the payment because it looks fraudulent. Checkout.com tells the shopper to try a different card or contact the bank. What PlatformDTC does
In PlatformDTC's routing table 20059 from Checkout.com is a fraud stop: checkout offers no backup processor and no automatic retry, so a blocked payment cannot slip through another route. A subscription renewal declined with 20059 is never retried: the subscription is held past due and the customer is emailed a link to add a new card.
Why it happens
The issuer's fraud model flagged the payment: unusual location, device, amount, or a pattern typical of stolen cards.
What the shopper can do
If it was you, call the bank and confirm, then try again. Otherwise use another card.
What the store can do
Never loop retries on this code. If several attempts arrive from one visitor with different cards, treat it as possible card testing.
For developers
The payment comes back with status Declined, response_code 20059 and a response_summary such as "Suspected fraud" (Checkout.com notes the text can vary by endpoint). Checkout.com's Visa table puts this code in category 2, which it pairs with recommendation code 02 (try again later); read processing.recommendation_code on the response.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I retry Checkout.com 20059?
- Visa allows it in category 2 (up to 15 in 30 days), but a blind retry asks the same fraud model the same question. Wait for the cardholder to confirm with the bank.
- Should I ship an order after 20059?
- There is no order to ship: the payment was refused. If the shopper pays with another card, review it like any order flagged by a bank.
