Card issuer response codes (ISO 8583) · Decline codes
What does card decline code 75 mean?
Checked
Code 75 is an ISO 8583 issuer response code meaning the "allowable number of PIN entry tries exceeded", used by Visa and Mastercard. Too many wrong PINs have locked PIN use on the card until the bank resets it. It belongs to in-person and PIN payments. Visa lists 75 in Category 2, allowing up to 20 reattempts in 30 days, though a reattempt works only once the PIN is unlocked.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC files a raw 75 as never-retry, the same as at checkout. Online renewals cannot take a PIN, so on either retry schedule, fixed or Smart retry, a renewal declined 75 is not retried: the subscription is held past due and the customer gets a one-click link to add another card. At checkout, Stripe's pin_try_exceeded is never offered to the backup processor.
Why it happens
Repeated wrong PIN entries trigger a lock. Online payments don't use PINs, so a store mostly sees 75 through card-present sales.
What the shopper can do
Ask the bank to reset the PIN, or pay another way.
For developers
On Stripe the raw issuer code arrives in charge.outcome.network_decline_code (here "75"), next to Stripe's own decline_code. Read it together with the card brand: the same two characters can mean different things on Visa and Mastercard. Stripe's matching decline_code is pin_try_exceeded, which Stripe says requires another card or payment method.
