How do Spanish shoppers pay online?
Checked
Spanish shoppers pay online by card, PayPal and Bizum, a phone payment backed by Spain's main banks. To pay with Bizum, the shopper picks 'Pagar con Bizum', enters their phone number and approves in their bank's app. Bizum's site shows 31.5 million active users and 120,000 online shops, though it gives no date. Klarna offers pay later up to €500 and pay in 3 from €1 to €3,000 in Spain.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout does not offer Bizum today. Shoppers in Spain can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal in euros, or Klarna on one-time orders from €1 to €10,000 when the store's Stripe account is in the EEA, UK or Switzerland.
How Bizum works online
Bizum started as a way to send money between friends and now also pays in online shops and for donations. At checkout the shopper enters the phone number linked to Bizum, then confirms the purchase inside their own bank's app.
What a store can offer instead
Without Bizum, Spanish shoppers still have cards, phone wallets, PayPal and Klarna. Klarna decides whether a shopper sees pay later or pay in 3.
