How do Danes pay online?

Checked

Danes pay by card, more and more through phone wallets: Danmarks Nationalbank says 31.6% of card payments in 2025 went through digital wallets, up from 28.0% in 2024. MobilePay, popular in Denmark and Finland, is a card wallet approved in its app. Dankort is Denmark's own card network, available in Apple Pay through more than 40 banks; Stripe doesn't support Dankort as a network. Klarna offers pay in full, pay later and pay in 3 in kroner.

What PlatformDTC does

PlatformDTC checkout does not offer MobilePay today. Danish shoppers can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal in kroner, or Klarna on one-time orders from DKK 1 to DKK 100,000 when the store's Stripe account is in the EEA, UK or Switzerland.

MobilePay and Dankort

On a phone the shopper is sent to MobilePay; on a computer they enter their phone number and accept a push notification. Stripe says a Dankort-branded card used through MobilePay is processed on Visa or Mastercard, because Stripe doesn't support Dankort.

Wallets are growing

Danmarks Nationalbank counted 2,863 million card transactions in 2025, almost a third through digital wallets. That makes Apple Pay and Google Pay worth showing to Danish shoppers.

Frequently asked questions

Can I accept Dankort on Stripe?
Not as Dankort. Stripe says it doesn't support the Dankort network, so co-branded cards run on Visa or Mastercard.
Is MobilePay the same app in Finland?
Yes. Stripe lists Denmark and Finland as MobilePay's customer countries.
