How do Indian shoppers pay online? UPI and cards
Checked
Indian shoppers pay online with UPI, a real-time payment system developed by the National Payments Corporation of India that moves money instantly between bank accounts. The shopper approves in their preferred banking or wallet app: on a computer by scanning a QR code, on a phone by switching to the UPI app. UPI also handles recurring payments through UPI AutoPay mandates. Cards are used as well, charged in Indian rupees.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout does not offer UPI today. Indian shoppers can use the card form or Apple Pay; Stripe does not show Google Pay to shoppers in India, and PayPal can't charge in rupees, so it shows only when the store prices in a PayPal currency such as US dollars.
How UPI works
UPI transfers funds instantly between two bank accounts. The shopper authenticates in their own app, and for subscriptions they authorise a mandate once so later payments can be taken within its terms.
Selling to India from abroad
Stripe accounts in the US, much of Europe, Australia, Canada and Singapore can accept UPI from Indian shoppers. On PlatformDTC, Indian shoppers use cards and phone wallets.
