How do Thai shoppers pay online? PromptPay and cards
Checked
Thai shoppers pay online with PromptPay and cards. PromptPay, operating since 2016, is a payment infrastructure that the Bank of Thailand says expands how people transfer money, using a citizen ID, mobile number or bank account. Its Thai QR Payment lets shoppers pay by scanning a code in their banking app. On Stripe, the shopper sees a QR code at checkout and the store is told instantly when it is paid.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout does not offer PromptPay today. Thai shoppers can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or the store's PayPal in baht; a store whose Stripe account is in Thailand can't take American Express.
How PromptPay works online
At checkout the shopper scans a QR code with a Thai bank app and approves. Stripe confirms the payment instantly. Only Stripe accounts in Thailand can accept PromptPay.
Cards in Thailand
Stripe lists Thailand among the account countries where American Express isn't available, so a Thai-based store takes Visa and Mastercard.
