Braintree · Decline codes
What does Braintree 2106 “Cannot Authorize at this time (Policy)” mean?
Checked
Braintree 2106 “Cannot Authorize at this time (Policy)” means the transaction was refused for a policy reason at the bank. It is a soft decline, and Braintree says to try again later. If the policy is a lasting restriction on the card, the shopper will need to call the bank or pay another way.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree. On its Stripe checkout a refusal the bank says cannot be approved now goes on a short, spaced retry schedule for renewals, while a refusal it says will never be approved is not retried at all.
Why it happens
The card's issuer rules do not allow this transaction right now.
What the store can do
Retry later, then ask for another payment method.
For developers
Braintree returns processor_response_code 2106 with processor_response_text “Cannot Authorize at this time (Policy)” and processor_response_type “soft_declined” on the Transaction object.
