What does Braintree 2105 “Cannot Authorize at this time (Life cycle)” mean?

Checked

Braintree 2105 “Cannot Authorize at this time (Life cycle)” means the transaction was refused because of invalid card data. It is a soft decline, and Braintree's advice is to try again later. Life-cycle refusals typically concern the card's state, such as an expired or replaced card, so if a later try fails, ask for another card.

What PlatformDTC does

PlatformDTC does not connect to Braintree. On its Stripe rail an expired card is never retried: the renewal is held and the subscriber gets a one-click link to update the card instead.

Why it happens

Braintree says the card data was invalid; the issuer classed the refusal under life cycle.

What the store can do

Try once more later, then ask for another card.

For developers

Braintree returns processor_response_code 2105 with processor_response_text “Cannot Authorize at this time (Life cycle)” and processor_response_type “soft_declined” on the Transaction object.
