What does the PayPal CARD_TYPE_NOT_SUPPORTED error mean?
Checked
PayPal's CARD_TYPE_NOT_SUPPORTED error means processing of this card type isn't supported; PayPal's advice is to "use another card type." Retrying the same card won't work. The buyer should pay with a different card brand or method, and the merchant should check which card types its PayPal setup accepts.

What PlatformDTC does
On PayPal card payments, PlatformDTC records CARD_TYPE_NOT_SUPPORTED as card_not_supported, a hard decline: on either retry schedule (the default Fixed schedule or Smart retry), renewals are not retried and the customer is asked for another card. On PayPal wallet renewals the issue has no specific rule, so it is treated as a generic decline and logged as unclassified.
