How do Egyptian shoppers pay online?
Checked
Egyptian shoppers pay with cards, instant transfers and cash. The Central Bank of Egypt's Instant Payment Network, launched in March 2022, links every bank in Egypt; through InstaPay people send money instantly to bank accounts, Meeza cards and mobile wallets, or pay by link or QR code, up to EGP 70,000 per transaction. Meeza is Egypt's national payment scheme. Fawry lets shoppers pay for online orders in cash at shops and kiosks.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout takes Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay from Egyptian shoppers; PayPal can't charge in Egyptian pounds. InstaPay, Meeza and Fawry are not in the Stripe card form, but an Egypt-based store can connect its own MyFatoorah account, and local methods then depend on that account.
InstaPay limits
The Central Bank of Egypt sets InstaPay limits at EGP 70,000 per transaction, EGP 120,000 per day and EGP 400,000 per month, for each bank registered in the app.
Meeza and Fawry
Meeza was launched under the National Payments Council, and government payments run mainly through it. Checkout.com says Fawry has more than 166,500 locations in about 300 cities.
Frequently asked questions
- Can a store based in the Gulf use MyFatoorah on PlatformDTC?
- Yes. Stores based in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan or Egypt can connect their own MyFatoorah account as a card gateway. Which local methods shoppers see then depends on what that MyFatoorah account has switched on.
- Who runs InstaPay?
- It runs on the Instant Payment Network of the Central Bank of Egypt, which links every bank operating in Egypt.
