JCB cards for online stores: who can accept them and how security works
Checked
JCB is Japan's card network. On Stripe, businesses in Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK, the US and the EEA except Iceland can accept JCB cards from cardholders worldwide. JCB's own online authentication service is called J/Secure. Stripe runs 3D Secure on JCB only for sellers in Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, Switzerland, the UK and the EEA except Iceland. JCB cards also work in Apple Pay and Google Pay on Stripe.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout accepts JCB cards in the card form and wallets on Stripe accounts that can take them, including for subscriptions, and a store owner can refuse JCB on its own under Settings, Payments, Payment methods, Cards.
Selling to Japanese shoppers
If you sell into Japan, JCB acceptance matters. Stripe also notes that Japan's Credit Card Security Guidelines can trigger 3D Secure automatically.
Fraud reports on JCB
Stripe receives early fraud warnings from JCB issuers as well as Visa and Mastercard ones. A warning is not a dispute, but it is a signal to look at the order before it ships.
Frequently asked questions
- Can a US store accept JCB on Stripe?
- Yes. The US is in Stripe's seller list for JCB, though Stripe does not run 3D Secure on JCB for US sellers.
- What is J/Secure?
- JCB's online authentication service. The issuer checks device and location data and may ask for a one-time password or biometric check if more proof is needed.
