Cartes Bancaires for online stores: how co-badged cards and disputes work
Checked
Cartes Bancaires is France's local card network. Stripe says more than 95% of CB cards are co-badged with Visa or Mastercard, so one card can run on either network. EU rules require stores in the EEA to let shoppers choose the network for co-badged CB cards in euros, and Stripe's Payment Element shows that choice by default. CB disputes are rarer than Visa or Mastercard ones, but sellers in the SEPA area cannot contest them; Stripe charges no dispute fee on them.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout has no separate Cartes Bancaires switch: CB cards are typed into the Stripe Payment Element card form, which Stripe says shows the network choice for co-badged cards when an EEA store charges in euros.
Card brand choice in the EU
Regulation (EU) 2015/751 makes EEA businesses honour the shopper's network choice on co-badged cards. Online it applies when the card is a co-badged CB card and the currency is EUR. If the shopper picks nothing, the seller may choose.
Stripe adds that if a CB charge is declined for a technical reason, it retries on Visa or Mastercard. Stores not based in France must process one payment from an eligible CB card before CB is fully on.
Disputes on CB
CB asks cardholders for a higher standard of evidence before they can dispute, which keeps dispute rates lower. In return, sellers in the SEPA area processing on CB cannot challenge the dispute at all. This applies to the processing network, not to every card issued by CB.
