eftpos for online stores: how Australian debit cards are routed
Checked
eftpos is Australia's local debit card network. Stripe says more than 90% of eftpos cards are co-branded with Visa or Mastercard, and only those can pay online; eftpos-only cards work in person only. For Stripe accounts based in Australia, co-branded cards are routed under least-cost routing rules, generally over eftpos, and the store must tell shoppers their payment may go through either network. eftpos payments are in AUD and support refunds, disputes and recurring payments.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout has no separate eftpos option; for stores with an Australian Stripe account, co-branded eftpos cards typed into the card form are routed by Stripe, and Australian shoppers can also pay with Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, Klarna or Afterpay.
Which network carries the payment
Stripe routes between the international network and eftpos based on the type of payment, availability and approval rates. A payment that places a hold before capture always goes over Visa or Mastercard; most other payments default to eftpos.
The notice Australian stores must show
Unless you change the default network, Stripe says you must tell shoppers that a dual-network debit card may be processed through either network, whatever logo they see. Show it before checkout completes for one-time payments and at setup for recurring ones.
