What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC classes Authorize.Net code 17 as one another processor may accept: if the store set PayPal card payments as its backup, checkout offers the shopper PayPal's card fields so the sale is not lost to a card brand you have not enabled. On a subscription renewal the card type will not be accepted later either, so the renewal is not retried and the customer is asked for a different card.
Why it happens
Each card brand has to be enabled at the processor and on the Authorize.Net gateway. Code 17 is the gateway side missing.
What the shopper can do
Use a Visa or Mastercard, or another brand the store accepts.
What the store can do
Contact your merchant service provider to enable the brand on the processor, then Authorize.Net Merchant Support to enable it on your gateway. On a sandbox account, Developer Support enables card types.
For developers
