What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC checkout does not offer Cash App Pay today. US shoppers can pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, and at US stores they can split one-time orders with Klarna (up to $10,000) or Afterpay (up to $2,000), both switched on by default.
How a shopper pays with Cash App Pay
The shopper picks Cash App Pay. On a phone they are sent to Cash App; on a computer they scan a QR code with Cash App. They have 10 minutes to approve, then return to the store. Payments show on statements with a CashApp* prefix before the business name.
What it means for your store: limits, refunds and fraud
Stripe sets no business-level limits, but Cash App sets its own limits for each customer based on things like verification and history, and Stripe suggests using Cash App Pay for orders below about 2,000 USD to avoid declines.
When the shopper is present and logs in to Cash App, Cash App takes the loss for customer fraud. For saved, off-session charges such as renewals, Cash App puts fraud liability on the business. Dispute fees are not refunded even if you win.
Which businesses can accept it
Stripe allows Cash App Pay for business-to-consumer sales only. Some categories are restricted and others prohibited outright, including Direct Marketing – Subscription, drug stores and pharmacies, adult content and cigar stores.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Cash App Pay the same as Afterpay?
- No. Cash App Pay takes the full amount now from the shopper's Cash App balance or debit card. Afterpay is a buy-now-pay-later method that splits the purchase into interest-free installments while the store is paid up front.
- Who is liable for fraud on Cash App Pay?
- For payments the shopper approves by logging in, Cash App takes the loss for customer fraud. For saved payments charged later without the shopper present, Cash App puts that liability on the business.
- Can international shoppers use Cash App Pay?
- No. Stripe lists Cash App Pay as US customers only, in US dollars, with no cross-border payments.
