What does Checkout.com 200P9 “Limit exceeded. Enter a lesser value.” mean?
Checked
Checkout.com 200P9 "Limit exceeded. Enter a lesser value." means the order total is above a limit on the card. The response itself suggests a lower amount would pass, so the card works, just not for this much. Visa treats unlisted codes as category 4, which allows up to 15 retries in 30 days.

What PlatformDTC does
PlatformDTC treats 200P9 from Checkout.com as a timing problem at the bank. It never reroutes this decline to a backup processor, since a second processor reaches the same account and the same limit. With Smart retry on, a subscription renewal declined with 200P9 is retried 2, 5 and 8 days after the first decline.
Why it happens
A per-transaction or period limit on the card is lower than the order value.
What the shopper can do
Pay with a different card, or ask the bank to raise the limit.
What the store can do
Offer alternatives such as PayPal. Changing the order amount is the shopper's choice, not something to do automatically.
For developers
The payment comes back with status Declined, response_code 200P9 and a response_summary such as "Limit exceeded. Enter a lesser value." (Checkout.com notes the text can vary by endpoint). Checkout.com's Visa table puts this code in category 4, which it pairs with recommendation code 02 (try again later); read processing.recommendation_code on the response.
