v1.21

Visa Compelling Evidence 3.0: card payments carry what Visa needs to block friendly-fraud disputes and drop fraud reports from your monitoring ratio

Card payments on PlatformDTC Payments now record everything Visa's Compelling Evidence 3.0 (CE 3.0) rules match on, and automatic dispute responses include CE 3.0 evidence for eligible Visa fraud disputes.

Visa's Acquirer Monitoring Program (VAMP) counts fraud reports from card-issuing banks as well as disputes. A fraud report still counts when the payment was refunded or the dispute was resolved early. The one exception is a transaction that qualifies for CE 3.0: when the same card was used for at least two earlier undisputed orders placed 120 to 364 days before, and those orders match on the IP address plus the email or delivery address, the bank must block the fraud dispute and Visa leaves the report out of your ratio.

Added

  • Product descriptions on card payments. Checkout, post-purchase add-on and subscription renewal payments now carry a description of what was bought (for example Order #2203 — 2× Blue Widget). When a cardholder asks their bank about a Visa payment, the bank sees the products, the delivery address, the email address and the IP address used to place the order, and, under CE 3.0, the same details of earlier orders from that card.
  • Device evidence on post-purchase add-ons. Accepting an add-on now records the shopper's device and IP address with the add-on payment, which is charged separately from the original checkout payment.
  • CE 3.0 in automatic dispute responses. With Respond to disputes automatically turned on, an eligible Visa fraud dispute is answered with two matching earlier orders from the same card. When Stripe confirms the evidence qualifies, it is submitted straight away instead of waiting until close to the deadline. The dispute's badge shows the CE 3.0 result.
  • CE 3.0 readiness on Settings → Automation: the share of your last 30 days of card orders that carry a purchase IP address, customer email and full delivery address, whether product descriptions are being sent, and the earliest date a dispute on your store can qualify.

Good to know

  • CE 3.0 needs history. An order only counts as earlier history once it is 120 days old, so a store qualifies no earlier than 120 days after its first paid card order.
  • Blocking before a dispute is filed requires Stripe's dispute prevention (Visa Order Insight) on the payments account.
  • Our Dispute Resolution Policy (§4.4), Privacy Policy and subprocessor list describe what is shared with card-issuing banks.
