v1.72

Apps can plug into your AI assistant

The apps you install can now work through your AI assistant.

  • App actions in your assistant. When an app you installed offers agent tools, your assistant (Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor or the dashboard Assistant, connected at https://api.platformdtc.com/mcp) can use them: for example, "give Maria 500 loyalty points" goes to your loyalty app. It sees an app's tools only on stores where the app is installed, and only for permissions you gave both the app and the assistant. Uninstall the app and its tools are gone.
  • You approve anything that spends or messages customers. App actions that move money or contact customers wait under Waiting for you on the Agents page, shown as "App action" with the app and what it wants to do. Nothing runs until you approve.
  • "What this app lets your assistant do" on an app's App Store page lists its tools, marking the ones that ask you first and the ones that only read.
  • App data your assistant can read. Apps can store their own data in your store's metafields and metaobjects. Your assistant reads it; only the app that owns it can change it, and other apps can't see it.

New for app developers

  • Agent tools. Declare up to 20 tools on an app version (name, title, description, JSON Schema input, required scopes, your HTTPS URL). The platform calls your server with the same sha256= HMAC signature as webhooks, with a timestamp and an idempotency key. 10-second timeout, 64 KiB responses, 60 calls a minute per store, and a circuit breaker so a slow app never slows the assistant.
  • Test a tool from Versions in the Partner dashboard against a development store, or with POST /api/v1/appstore/partner-agent-tools/apps/{app_id}/test.
  • CLI: an extension folder with type = "agent_tools" and tools = "tools.json"; dtc app deploy checks and sends it. See App configuration.
  • App-owned custom data. Metafield namespace $app / $app: and metaobject type $app:<type> are stored under your app id; you read and write them, the merchant reads them, other apps can't see them. See Share data with the assistant.
