Apps can add scripts to your online store

Apps from the App Store can now load their own JavaScript on your live online store.

New

  • Script tags API. An app with the new write_script_tags permission registers a script URL with POST /api/v1/script_tags, and every page of your online store loads it. You don't need to republish or edit your theme, and a change reaches live pages within about five minutes. See Script tags.
  • You stay in control. Adding scripts is a separate permission that you approve when you install the app. An app only ever sees its own scripts. When you uninstall an app, its scripts stop loading immediately and are deleted.
  • Safe by construction. Scripts must be served over https://, load asynchronously so they never hold up your page, and are capped at 50 per app per store.

Fixed

  • Creating an app in the Partner Dashboard works again. The Distribution menu offered options the platform didn't accept, so every attempt failed with "Request validation failed". It now offers Custom (installable by link) and Public (listed after review). The handle fills in from the app name, and a taken handle is flagged on the field.
