Payout
Updated
A payout is the transfer of a merchant's available balance from its payment provider to its own bank account.
Customers pay into the merchant's payment provider balance, not straight into its bank. Once funds are available, the provider sends them to the bank account on file as a payout.
Stripe sends payouts on a schedule the business chooses during onboarding or later in its Dashboard. Stripe notes that choosing a schedule does not change how long a payment takes to become available.
Payouts can be held back. A reserve keeps part of the balance to cover expected refunds and disputes, and negative balances from refunds or chargebacks are taken from future payouts.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is my payout less than my sales?
- Fees, refunds, disputes and any reserve are deducted from the balance before it is paid out.
- Can I get paid out daily?
- On Stripe you can choose a payout schedule, but the schedule does not speed up when payments become available.
