iDEAL

Updated

iDEAL is the Netherlands' common online payment method, where shoppers are sent to their own bank to approve a payment from their account.

At checkout the shopper chooses iDEAL, picks their bank, approves the payment in their banking app or website, and returns to the store. It is a bank redirect: the money comes straight from the shopper's bank account.

iDEAL is being folded into Wero. Stripe's documentation says Wero acquired iDEAL, asks integrations to rebrand the option to iDEAL | Wero in the first quarter of 2026, and to switch to Wero during 2026 and 2027 to keep accepting bank redirects.

Because the shopper approves each payment in their bank, there is no card chargeback; refunds are sent back to the shopper's account.
