v1.87

Sign in without a password

PlatformDTC no longer uses passwords. Sign in with Google, or with a link and 6-digit code we email you.

Changed for merchants

  • Email me a sign-in link. Enter your email and we send one email with a Sign in button and a 6-digit code. Tap the button on the device you're using, or type the code, handy when your email is on your phone. Both work once and expire after 15 minutes.
  • Signing up works the same way. Continue with Google, or enter your email (and, if you like, a store name). Your account and store are created when you use the link or code.
  • Password sign-in, sign-up, reset and change-password are gone, including the password section in Settings → Account. Your account, stores and data are unchanged: use the same email address. If you were signed in, you stay signed in.
  • Disconnecting Google is always allowed now, because you can always sign in with an email link.
For developers
  • POST /api/v1/auth/login, /register, /forgot-password, /reset-password, /change-password and /set-password return 410 with error_code: PASSWORD_SIGN_IN_REMOVED. The dtc CLI, MCP agents and App Store apps already sign in through the browser and are unaffected.
