v1.191
Failed card renewals can switch to PayPal in one step
When a subscriber's card renewal doesn't go through, they can type their card once into your store's PayPal card form. PayPal saves it, and every later renewal charges it automatically.
New
- On the update payment method page (the link in reminder and failed-payment emails), subscribers whose card renewal failed see their card form run by your PayPal Card Processing connection. They type the card once, confirm with their bank if it asks, and see "Your card is saved. Your next payment will use it."
- A subscription on hold is paid right away, and the subscriber sees whether it went through.
- Pay another way keeps Apple Pay, Google Pay and your main card provider one click away.
- Your dashboard shows these subscriptions as Card via PayPal with the card's brand and last 4 digits.
- Recovered by smart retry (Settings → Payments) now also counts renewals paid on PayPal after the switch, and the renewal order gets the Saved by smart retry tag.
Worth knowing
- Offered only when PayPal Card Processing is connected and on. Subscribers who pay with their PayPal account keep the flow they have.
- The card is kept only when the subscriber's bank confirmed them (3D Secure). Otherwise nothing is saved and they're asked to try again or use another card.
- Cards already saved keep renewing on PayPal even if you switch the option off. Don't disconnect PayPal Card Processing while subscriptions renew on it.
