How that compares with Shopify
These are Shopify's published prices for plans billed monthly, and its US online card rates:
| Shopify | PlatformDTC | |
|---|---|---|
| Entry plan | Basic, $25 a month, 2.9% + 30¢ | Basic, $20 a month, 3.3% + 30¢ |
| Middle plan | Grow, $65 a month, 2.7% + 30¢ | Pro, $49 a month, 3.3% + 30¢ |
| Top self-serve plan | Advanced, $399 a month, 2.5% + 30¢ | Scale, $299 a month, 3.3% + 30¢ |
| Intro offer | 3 days free, then $1 a month for 3 months | Build and publish free, then $1 a month for 3 months |
Our plans cost less every month. Our card rate is higher. Which one costs you less depends on how much you sell, so do the sum with your own numbers before you move.
Why the card rate did not go lower
We wanted to match Shopify's card rates, so we measured what taking a payment actually costs us before we changed anything. Our payment processor charges us its standard 2.9% + 30¢ on a domestic card, plus a fraud-screening fee on every payment it checks. Our card rate is that 2.9% + 30¢ plus 0.4%, and the 0.4% has to pay the screening fee before we earn anything. Anything lower and we would lose money on every order you take — and a platform that loses money on every sale does not stay around to run your store.
So the rate is one number on every plan, and the bigger plans no longer buy a lower rate. What a bigger plan adds is usage credit: each invoice puts its own amount on your account, to spend on AI agent runs and marketing email and SMS.
If you are already on PlatformDTC
- Your card rate dropped today. Every store now pays 3.3% + 30¢ on a domestic card, including stores on plans we no longer sell. You do not need to do anything.
- Nobody pays more. If your plan's price went down, your subscription moves to the new price from your next renewal, with no proration charge.
- The three $1 months are for new plans. If you already used your $1 first month, that stays as it was.
Pick a plan and your first three months are $1 a month.
